Empire Iron Works Ltd. detailed, supplied, fabricated and erected the steel for the YVR West Chevron Expansion.
This is the fourth expansion that Empire Iron Works has added to the International Terminal Building. The structure features eight 120 ton canoe trusses over a deep sea fish tank providing airy access to the terminal. The sterile walkways are hung from the roof with rods attached by clevises to boat beams fabricated from plate. The interior openness sets the standard for airports around the globe.
EIW Project Manager's coordinated fabrication in three separate shops (Wabamun, Winnipeg and Vancouver) maintaining scheduled arrivals to the erection crews on an operating airport site which provided it's own storage and land/air security challenges.
The working relationship with the Vancouver International Airport Authority facilitated design assist fabrication to the consultant structural engineer. A fast track schedule for the supply detail and fabrication of structural steel happened along side final designs of the structural and architectural elements of the project.
